After more than ten years dedicated to reinventing how the world produces silica and stores hydrogen, we must share difficult news. HSL Technologies has ceased operations.
Despite sustained efforts to secure new financing through a Series B round, and in a market environment marked by significant caution among investors in both the decarbonized silica and hydrogen sectors, we were unable to identify a lead investor capable of bringing others along. Without this critical funding, we were not able to continue operating as a company.
This outcome does not diminish what we built. HydroSil, our proprietary technology protected by 14 patent families, represents a genuine breakthrough: a safe, liquid way to store and transport hydrogen at ambient temperature, releasing renewable hydrogen and precipitated, low carbon silica without additional energy input. It addresses two of industry’s most pressing challenges at once, and the need for the decarbonization it enables, across manufacturing and mobility, has never been more urgent.
We want to recognize the extraordinary work of our teams. For over a decade, our engineers, researchers, and colleagues in Aix en Provence poured their expertise, creativity, and conviction into this project. What we achieved together, from early research to a working pilot infrastructure, reflects a level of dedication we are deeply proud of.
Our hope now is that this innovation continues, whether through HSL in a new form, or through a partner who shares our belief in its potential.
